M.E. Clifton James
Meyrick Edward Clifton JamesĀ (April 1898 ā 5 May 1963) was an actor and soldier, with a resemblance toĀ Field Marshal Bernard MontgomeryĀ which was used byĀ British intelligenceĀ as part of a deception campaign during theĀ Second World War. In 1954, James published a book about his exploits, entitledĀ I Was Monty's Double. The book became the basis for the script of theĀ 1958 filmĀ starringĀ John MillsĀ andĀ Cecil Parker, with James playing himself and Montgomery.Ā
