Yorgos Lanthimos
YorgosĀ LanthimosĀ (Greek:Ā ĪιĻĻĪ³ĪæĻ ĪάνθιμοĻ, born 23 September 1973) is a Greek filmmaker. He has receivedĀ multiple accolades, including aĀ BAFTA Award and aĀ Golden Lion, as well as nominations for fiveĀ Academy AwardsĀ and aĀ Golden Globe Award. Lanthimos started his career inĀ experimental theatreĀ before making his directorial film debut with the sex comedyĀ My Best FriendĀ (2001). He rose to prominence by directing the psychological drama filmĀ DogtoothĀ (2009), which won theĀ Un Certain Regard prize at theĀ Cannes Film FestivalĀ and was nominated for theĀ Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Lanthimos transitioned to making English-language films with the black comedyĀ The LobsterĀ (2015), which earned him anĀ Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay, and the psychological thrillerĀ The Killing of a Sacred DeerĀ (2017). He collaborated with actressĀ Emma StoneĀ in the period black comediesĀ The FavouriteĀ (2018) andĀ Poor ThingsĀ (2023) and the anthology filmĀ Kinds of KindnessĀ (2024). He received nominations for theĀ Academy Award for Best DirectorĀ andĀ Best PictureĀ forĀ The FavouriteĀ andĀ Poor Things, in addition to winning the Golden Lion for the latter.
